What is PLA Filament?

Issuing time:2020-04-15 00:00

PLA filament is widely usedin the 3D printer industry due to its stable performance, and affordable price, and environmental protection effects. PLA filament is the most commonly used onFDM 3D printers. PLA (Polylactic Acid), also known as corn starch resin, is anew type of biodegradable material made from starch raw materials extractedfrom renewable plant resources (such as corn), with good biodegradability.

Characteristics of PLA Filament:
PLA filaments are of great properties which make them especially suitablefor entry-level users and worries-free printing experience.

1. Easy-to-print. PLA has its melting temperature at 180ºC, which makes the useof hotbed heating and printer enclosure not necessary when printing with PLA.Besides, PLA is of good tensile strength with tensile modulus 2.7–16 GPa,reducing the printing trouble such as warping or nozzle clogging.

2. High heat resistance. Basically, the basic mechanical properties of PLA arebetween polystyrene and PET. PLA can withstand a high temperature of 110 ºC,therefore, it is often used in the food industry and for 3D printing.

3. Quality final prints. Compared to other 3D printing materials like ABS whichoften brings stringiness or blabbing during printing, PLA, on the other hand, greatlyeliminates those potential problems.

4. Less complex post-processing. To make better quality PLA 3D prints, PLA onlyrequires simple post-processing methods such as sanding and acetone treating, making it more convenient to print with.

5. No-toxic and sustainable. As mentioned before, PLA is made from naturalmaterials such as corn starch. It can be degraded under certain aerobicconditions.

PLA Filament Applications:
PLA 3D printing filament is harmless and biodegradable, which makes it a uniqueadvantage in disposable tableware, food packaging materials, and otherdisposable supplies. Meanwhile, what requires attention is that disposabletableware processed with PLA raw materials are not resistant to temperature, oil, and microwave. As technology evolutes, PLA filament is also graduallyapplied in the automotive industry and electronics.

1. Be harmless tohuman, be friendly to environment

2. Low materialshrinkage, stable printing size

3. Printing temp:190~220, lower than other filament.

4. No smoke orunpleasant smell when printing.

1. High line precision,standard deviation of diameter0.05mm.

2. Improve tenacity ofPLA, line luminous is 90%, do not change flament transparency.

3. Lower filamenthygroscopicity, easy to keep long time by simple dust protection.

1. Apply to all typesof FFF 3D printers, no need heating raft, low demand to printers.

2. Be applicable formodels which have complex structures and high molding precision.

3. Match up with PVA,printing models which are hollow-out and have large inclination angles.

4. Match up with flexiblefilament, printing models combined with soft and hard filament.

1. Products can bedivided into two specifications according to line diameter, wire range of1.75mm specification: 1.70~1.80mm, wire range of 3.00mm specification:2.90~3.00mm.

2. Printing temp rangerecommended: 190~220.

3. Printing speed:60~90mm/s.

4. Build plate temp:non-required.

5. Printing substrate:non-required.
